Post #100 Me vs. the DMV

It has been a long 3 months. (I think I have said that already)

One of many things that I have been doing is trying to purchase a new car. Trying being the operative word here.

I would have thought that purchasing a car from a friend would be easy.

"Hey I have a car to sell, do you want it?"
"Sure. Let me get a loan. (approved in 5 minutes) "
"Paper work signed sealed and delivered in a few days... drive the car away"

Well... thats how it would have worked out in my Homeland of --- In California? Not so much.

I was approved for the loan on June 1. I was FINALLY able to register the car today-- AUGUST 16!!

I had to go back and forth with the bank 6 times. I had to go to the DMV 4 times only to learn that I still did not have the correct paperwork. I had one encounter with the California Highway Patrol-- and was cited for not having the car registered yet. I nearly came unglued on the officer for how backward California is. Now I have a fine (who knows how much) and a court date on top of it. THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING.

Today, I finally registered the car, and took the CA drivers test to get my CA license. Yes, when you get a license in California you have to retake the test. Um... I took Drivers Ed 14 years ago-- I don't know if I remember everything? So I as I waited in the 2 hour line I read the drivers manual.

The kicker of the day-- I passed the test, only missing one. "What is the legal blood alcohol level?" Um... I don't drink! Why this question???

I passed. The car is registered. I am now a Californian. *sigh* phew. On to court next month. Happy 100th post!

In your homeland of... ?

That's really strange. I've both sold and bought vehicles within the last few months and they've all been really simple. The difference is, of course, that I had the title. I'm amazed how difficult it was for you, especially since we live in the era of credit. I'm glad to hear that you finally got it taken care of.

I'll ask my brother if there is anything you can do about the ticket. He might have some insights.

Have fun traveling.
